The Driller Baseball Club participates in the annual “Frozen Rope” tournament

The drillers are now 14-3-1 for the new season

– The Driller 9u Itinerant Baseball Club recently participated in the annual “Frozen Rope” tournament held each year in Paso Robles. The Drillers have been on the road for the past two months competing against top teams in Southern and Central California.

Drillers are currently ranked # 1 in the state according to the USSSA and ranked # 12 in the nation. The Drillers lived up to that ranking by going undefeated in the tournament and heading for the championship.

In Saturday’s group game, the Drillers faced a very good team from Daly City Ca. The Northern California team quickly realized that the drillers were as good as advertised. Mays Sorrentino threw a gem granting just one hit and striking out seven on strikes. The Drillers offense was led by Cooper Freitas with three hits and Huntington Teague with two and three RBIs. The Drillers won 11-1.

The Drillers’ second pool game faced the San Jose Ca Hype. The Drillers flexed their muscles again as they beat the team 13-3. Landon Berry pulled out six for the win. Mays Sorrentino and Jay Flores led the attack with several hits each. Sunday was elimination day with the No. 1 seed drillers once again facing the Northern California team. The drillers pitching once again were the story of the game this time Hudson Rodriguez and Jay Flores combined on a two-hit masterpiece. The drillers offensive was led by Adian Wahlberg, Jay Flores and Huntington Teague. The Drillers won by moving away 10-1.

The championship game was a big blow for the drillers. The Daly City team were not up to par with the driller’s dominant pitcher. Mays Sorrentino and Landon Berry combined 11 strikeouts and allowed just one bloop. Landon Berry entered the fourth and closed the door completely with 5 consecutive strikeouts. Maris Sorrentino, Landon Berry and Jay Flores led the offensive barrage that led to a decisive 11-2 victory. Mays Sorrentino has been named MVP of the tournament. The drillers are now 14-3-1 for the new season.
