SU names baseball stadium after community leader

SALISBURY, Md. — Seagull Stadium has been renamed in honor of Donnie Williams.

The stadium is home to the Salisbury University baseball team. It comes after a donor, Linda Slacum, made a donation to the school in honor of Donnie Williams. Salisbury University president Charles Wight said Williams has made contributions to the community and created a foundation that supports educational ventures. President Wight tells us a bit more about the honoree:

“Donnie of course played baseball for SU, he graduated in 1975, he was a business student and he built a few successful businesses in that field,” Charles Wight said.

President Wight said the donation would support the physical facility and other parts of Salisbury University athletics. May 17 marks exactly a decade after Williams passed away.

“Donnie was a lifelong baseball fan and also supported SU Athletics. He always praised his time in the League and was a member of the President’s Club until his passing. It seemed like the perfect fit,” said Linda Slacum.

President Wight tells 47 ABC there’s a lot of excitement surrounding League athletics. The school currently has 4 teams that are pursuing national championships.
