SOUTHEAST NC (WECT) – Riegelwood, Whiteville and Leland are all home to Diamond Champions.
The local Riegelwood youth baseball team won the Dixie Youth Division II World Series this week. Thursday there will be a celebration at the Riegelwood Ball Court around 6 p.m.
In addition to winning the World Series, the Riegelwood Majors also won the tournament’s sportsmanship award.
Columbus County Sheriffs and the Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire Department will escort the team upon arrival in Riegelwood. Their arrival is scheduled between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Weather permitting, there will be fireworks after the sun goes down.
Burgers and hot dogs will be provided, but the community is also welcome to bring drinks, cupcakes and fries. Additionally, people can show their support by making posters and banners before lining up along the road near the baseball stadium.
Additionally, the Whiteville Optimist AAA team won the Dixie Youth World Series held in Mississippi. They will be holding a parade Friday at 4 p.m. in downtown Whiteville.
In Leland, there will be a parade Friday at 6 p.m. in Northwest Park to celebrate the 2021 X-Play NC 12U Dixie Ponytails Softball Division State Champions. Brunswick County Schools announced in a tweet that their students represented North Carolina at the Dixie Softball World Series.
