Drillers Baseball Club currently ranked first in the nation in its division

The teams recently participated in the MLK Memorial Tournament held in Chino Hills

– The driller baseball club in Paso Robles is currently ranked the best in the country in the Boys 9 and under AAA division, according to current rankings. The Drillers recently sent two teams to Southern California to compete in the Martin Luther King Memorial NIT Super Regional Baseball Tournament held in Chino Hills, California.

The Drillers 7u surprised everyone by defeating three ranked teams before going down in the semi-finals in a fierce game. The Drillers were without one of the best pitchers due to COVID-19. The Drillers 9u traveled to SoCal aiming to win one of the biggest tournaments in the state with over 200 teams competing across all age groups. The team received a severe blow the day before the competition started when two of its star players tested positive for COVID-19 and had to return home.

The determined drillers won two and lost one in pool play and were seated #3. Monday turned out to be a great day for the organization. The Drillers came out on fire in Game 1 against a good Los Alamitos team. Huntington Teague and Jay Flores shut down the Los Alamitos team by allowing just three hits and striking out eight. The Bats came alive in the first as the mighty Drillers scored five runs helping the team to a 13-3 win. Jackson Jeckel, Jay Flores and Deagan Brady had multiple hits for the Drillers.

The championship game was a clash between the Costa Mesa Sox 16-2 and the Drillers 18-4. It was one of the best games of the year as the mighty Costa Mesa bats took on driller ace Landon Berry. Landon dominated from the start, cleaning up the Sox team and setting the tone offensively for the Drillers. The Fireball kicked off a full game by striking out nine and allowing just one earned run.

The Drillers’ offense beat their opponent 13 to 5 with four players on several hits including two homers. Landon Berry went 4-4 with one of the bombs left and Huntington Teague went deep in the first inning, giving the Drillers a huge boost. Hudson Rodriguez had three hits and three RBIs, Ethan Landsford had a pair of hits and made a spectacular catch in center field, and Owen Berry also contributed with two hits. The exhausted drillers pulled out and won 11-5 to win one of the biggest tournaments in the country.

The drillers will be back in action when they travel to Bakersfield, Calif. on February 6, to play in the age group and test their skills in a 10u tournament.
